2. Overview

Elternkompass is an app that supports parents in everyday parenting situations. We process personal data only to the extent necessary to provide the app and its features. You can use the app without an account at first (as a “guest”); some features (e.g. sync, the AI Situation Helper) require an account.

3. What data we process

a) Account & sign-in

On registration/sign-in: email address and authentication data. Sign-in is possible via email as well as “Sign in with Apple” and “Sign in with Google”; for the latter two we receive a sign-in identifier and your email address from the respective provider (Apple or Google). Purpose: account, sign-in, cross-device sync. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

b) Profile and usage content

Your child’s nickname and birth month/year, optionally a locally stored photo, your chosen parenting approach, learning progress, saved playbooks, reflection notes, and – if used – the history of the “Situation Helper”. Purpose: app functionality. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

The app is aimed at parents (adults), not at children. Information about your child is entered and initiated by you as the holder of parental responsibility; we deliberately collect data-minimising details (nickname instead of full name, birth month/year instead of full date) in order to tailor content to the child’s age.

c) Situation Helper (AI)

When you use the Situation Helper, the text you enter is transmitted to and processed by our processor Anthropic (Claude API) to generate a response. The Situation Helper is a core contractual feature of the app; processing of your own inputs therefore takes place for the performance of the contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). In addition, you explicitly confirm its use before first use in the app (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which also serves as the basis for the transfer to a third country (Art. 49(1)(a) GDPR; see 5). Please do not enter full names or clearly identifying details – in particular about third parties. You are interacting with an AI, not with a person. The conversation history is stored linked to your account so you can find it again; you can delete individual conversations at any time in the app. Anthropic deletes the inputs and outputs transmitted via the API by default within 30 days and does not use them to train its models. Exempt from the 30-day deletion are longer retention periods required by law or to enforce the usage policies (up to 2 years where a policy violation is suspected). If your input should exceptionally involve special categories of personal data (Art. 9 GDPR), we process these only on the basis of your explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR); please do not enter such details – in particular about third parties.

d) Shared household data (co-parenting)

If you invite a partner/grandparents into your household, they can see the shared children, the family playbook and notes you explicitly share. Learning progress and non-shared notes remain private.

e) Subscriptions / purchases

In-app purchases are handled via Apple and our service provider RevenueCat. We receive the subscription status, not your payment data (which is processed by Apple).

4. Recipients of your data

a) Processors (Art. 28 GDPR)

These service providers process personal data on our behalf and on our instructions. Data processing agreements pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR are in place or being concluded with them.

b) Independent controllers

For the following services, the providers act as independent controllers within the meaning of the GDPR for the respective function; a processing agreement is not the appropriate instrument here. Their own privacy notices apply.

5. Transfers to third countries

When you use the Situation Helper, your inputs are transmitted to Anthropic PBC (USA) and/or Anthropic Ireland Ltd. and processed in the USA. There is no adequacy decision (EU-US Data Privacy Framework) for this; the transfer is based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR), supplemented by your explicit consent (Art. 49(1)(a) GDPR). Other service providers (e.g. Apple, RevenueCat, Google) may also process data in the USA, likewise on the basis of appropriate safeguards (in particular the EU Standard Contractual Clauses). Access by US authorities (e.g. under the CLOUD Act / FISA 702) cannot be entirely excluded despite these safeguards. EU data residency is currently not available for the AI interface used.

6. Retention

We store personal data only for as long as necessary for the stated purposes:

When you delete your account, the associated data is deleted (see 8).

7. Your rights

You have the right to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21), as well as the right to withdraw consent at any time (Art. 7(3)). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77). The supervisory authority responsible for us is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit), Alt-Moabit 59–61, 10555 Berlin, Germany.

8. Account and data deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time in the app (Profile → “Delete account”). Alternatively, a message to support@elternkompass.site is sufficient.
